Every time I’m on a balcony this goes through my head and now it’s starting to creep into other places too. Like when you’re on a train platform… yeah…
So my girlfriend drew up some alternate panels for yesterday’s comic .
So you can follow my twitter or my deviant art. I’ve been posting warm up sketches that I do before working on comic stuff. Like Fem Shep!
It’s not so weird; this happens to me too. Either that, or we both need help…
we can split the costs on therapy
I’m terrified of subway platforms.. O.O
That’s another one that gets me.
My sister thinks the same thoughts too!
For a second there I thought you were talking about Shep from Interstella 5555 – then I realised that he’s normally blue, has two arms and doesn’t carry a gun.
and that he is a he?
That’s why you had to precise a “Fem” Shep… No ?
It’s something I don’t understand, Fem Shep is so cool (if not, you can change her), how is there so few people that choose her ?
I always get like that at an edge, a cliff, a building… I feel like I should jump. and its terrifying. You’re grilfriends still cute, even when she draws herself.
So… whats this about a sheep?
It’s a mass effect thing.
I worry about that too o.o I’m REALLY glad I’m not the only one.
From The sounds of it, we’re in good company.
I would question the Good, but definitely not the only ones. When I think it, there is usually some sort of spiderman idea, and then I remember I am in reality. Damn boring reality.
i have that too… but i also get weak knees on high open places.. so the first is probably trigger by the second
I honestly have not one problem with being 3 stories up on a high slope roof. My cousin, on the other hand, can’t even climb a ladder. He’s got vertigo so bad, he’ll get up on a 1 story roof and just lay down flat with his face buried in his arms, the first couple times he done it while literally tearing up. Irony: He’s 6′ 10″ tall…
that man must have to deal with it everyday. poor guy.
I have the same problem except mines more of “what if some stranger walks by when im not looking and pushes me” xD
I’d just suddenly develop super powers and fly away.
Hey no offense but your girlfriend is kinda messed up, that car looks like a rapist… and we all know it.
That’s why I love her, she’s just as messed as me.
Come on, what kind of car would work at that place anyway? It had to look a bit terrifying!
this is known as “The call of the void”, or “L’appel du vide”. Because the French always have a term for it.

Man, they’ve got so many great phrases. Like “Esprit d’Escalier,” or “the spirit of the stairs,” for when you think of the perfect retort after the argument is already over.
Wow, this comic and the responses have reassured me that this may actually be an OK response to high places. Also, nice reaction.
I get this feeling around bridges. It’s like it says “Go on and jump.”
I always fear someone’s just gonna toss me over.
Cutest deerlick ever. 😀
It’s nice being accounted part of such good company! I was wondering though, am I okay? Am I “not crazy”? Because I constantly get the sensation I’m going to accidentally make myself jump whenever I’m licked by a deer… :-/
I got that feeling reading this one. I get it all the time. Good thing I’m always out with family! They don’t mind when I run off/latch onto them.
You know those IEC power connectors you plug into the backside of a computer? A bit like extension cords but the plug is slimmer. Ever wanted to lick those?
this happens to me all the time, i get to a ledge, think “what would happen if i were to jump?” and my wonderful mind willingly provides a gruesome mental image that causes me to back off shaking, while everyone around me is wondering if I’m having a fit.
Your friend looks like a guy I used to work with, Joe Ollmann (who, incidentally, is a cartoonist as well)
I’m disappointed with the people I know and how few of them think exactly like I do. Some of those kinds of people commented on this page.
Don’t forget about a similar feeling that occurs around babies with tiny heads that you could squeeze and no one would have time to stop you. I recently saw my new baby cousin so that’s why.
They cover this on this Vsauce youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEikGKDVsCc
It’s about how when you near a high drop you can sometimes feel the urge to jump off or if you’re standing there with someone, the urge to push them over the edge.
It’s a common psychological phenomenon dubbed “The High Place Phenomenon”.
Yeah, this happens to me. It doesn’t scare me a whole lot, but I go through this thought process like “I could just jump. It would be so easy. What’s stopping me but my own sense of rationality?” But I know I wouldn’t do it.
