So some pretty cool things happened in the states yesterday. That’s pretty cool. I’m not really into american politics, mainly because I’m Canadian. Apparently some people were upset about it and have decided to come up here to Canada to get away from it all… No… No thank you. Please stay there. Please.
Also I’m aware the costs of our healthcare come from our taxes.
You can have them, we need less stupid people here. That should get rid of a decent portion of racists, homophobes, creationists, and people who think Earth is flat. Yes there are people who still think Earth is flat.
No… you keep them please…
IDEA: lets take all of the people trying to flee Obamacare by moving to Canada, and put them in insane asylum! They’ll fit right in too!
If by “insane asylum” you actually mean fake building wall in front of a cliff over lava, I agree whole-heartily.
I say ship’em to Norway and be done with it.
Oh hellz no!
We don’t want ’em.
Let them all move to alaska, and close the canadian borders, or something.
Ya, most of ’em would probably be to stupid to realize Alaska is part of the USA any way, just like Homer Simpson was.
Do. Not. Want!
I agree with Arg, as im also Canadian. You can keep them… unless they bring jobs with them. Oh and Money we will take your money too. Otherwise they are all yours. Oh and by the way awesome comic first came here last week gone through all of them so far keep it up.
Thanks dude! I’ll keep it up till I die!
You’re right about these kind of people being stupid. But perhaps they just don’t know how the Canadian healthcare system works. If insurance is provided by the government via taxation then you get healthcare no matter what. However, perhaps you don’t understand WHY they are upset… government, especially the that of the United States, does not have the constitutional right to FORCE citizens to purchase health insurance. Understand the difference? Honestly, if the government here wanted to attract favor, they should allow people to opt-out as many believe in the Right To Choose. I agree that health insurance is a good thing to have (you know, in case of something unexpected) but its still a choice. Just like going to the grocery store and choosing to buy only certain things. Would you wanna go to a grocery store that forced to you buy things you don’t want in order to leave the premises?

Your opinion is valid and welcome, thank you for commenting. I am aware of how this works but thank you for explaining it anyways.
Heh, must buy fruit on way out! Maybe that’d work to improve diets?
Just so you are aware, the Affordable Care Act doesn’t force anybody to do anything. You are still free to choose whether you want to buy health insurance or not. If you choose not to, then you pay a tax. It’s your choice. And since there is no human being in the history of humans who didn’t need health care, you’re going to pay one way or the other. All “Obamacare” does is keep the cost slightly lower for everyone.
Ah, but you dont realize something. Folks like me with advanced medical problems would be severely impacted. For me to get just a simple hospitalization plan, it would cost me well into 600$/mo for me to pay on my own. It would not cover the absurd costs of my medications (despite where I get them from).
But on the flip side, the state where I live, REQUIRES a liability car insurance if you intend to drive a car. If not, you pay 400$. There are a large percentage that avoid both all together. So I can see this being in somewhat the same way.
Its rather one sided if their going to fine people for not agreeing to their terms. I’d like to see a good health care system put into place just not one that I’ll get for if I don’t buy into it.
My mother had a saying, I believe it was a favorite of hers, for she would shout it with such glee the sun shone brighter, and the birds sang louder; I could always hear it over the roaring of her Mazda’s engine as she would speed away from the daycare center my sister and I spent most of our early years.
This saying I feel is most appropriate for this particular comic, thus the long winded expository above, and it went as follows:
“They’re Your Problem Now! Ha Ha Haa!”
What a glorious stroll down memory lane.
If you’re physically dropping them off then you are no longer welcome here…
My god, when I read your comic I thought you were not serious, but apparently a batch of dim bulbs left the US for Canada today(or considered it), sorry my country is taking out its trash on you. but don’t fret, I’m sure one of them might notice that Canada uses a socialist(world) system of healthcare… maybe one of them.
No need to apologize, it’s not your fault.
Canada has that kind of trash already. They just keep it chained up in the basement where they don’t have to talk about it.
I am so sorry, being an American, if this happens. This place is almost filled to
the brim with dumb people, but I’m a cynic.
You will have to excuse me; I have grown accustomed to apologizing for what happens in my own country and I am truly ashamed. I keep hearing more and more about you’re ahead of the curve compared to us and it just sounds wonderful
.
Lol. I don’t think were ahead of anybodies curve. I just like my healthcare through taxation.
My dad used to be a die hard Republican waaaayyy back in the day. I asked him once if he still considered himself a member of the GOP or a democrat. He just looked at me and said
“Boy, I’ve got enough problems without labeling myself a member of one group or another, there’s plenty of stupid in both parties without me adding my two cents. But I will say this, I’ve always just been curious as to why we all can’t do what makes the most damn sense…I swear everyone in this country took a idiot pill when I wasn’t looking.”
Smartest man I ever knew.
sounds like a guy I’d like.
Those are some fine words of wisdom. In all aspects of life (not just in politics), there’s too few people willing to use their brains to think about what needs to be done.
It’s the same here in Australia. If it wasn’t for the fact that these are people who apparently run the country, you’d swear that you were watching a circus act rather than a Senate meeting.
If you’ve never seen Idiocracy. Do it. It’s hillarious, but also shows what the world may really be like in a short period of time.
Ya… I’m freaken terrified for when my generation takes the reins, really good chance some idiot will stumble his way into power on charisma alone and royally fuck up whatever country he/she now rules, then this will happen in all of the major countries of the world (except for those dictator counties, the leaders today will originally still hold power then) and then the world will fall into anarchy. I just hope the Zombie Apocalypse hits before then so we would would not have to worry about politics, just surviving; I’d prefer the rapid decline of the world to some other worldly power over watching it slowly crumble to dust before my very eyes.
That made me laugh strong enough to let my boss look into my office xD
It’s a shame that people don’t think things through and rather go for an irrational decition.
Welp, you can’t really do a lot there, if the ignorant decide to stay ignorant, they will stay ignorant.
Thanks for this comic, you’re awesome, and I’m blabbing.
Have a nice day 😀
That’s it i am moving to the…….. forest, there i will ally myself with the bears and climb their ranks to the top, then i will make them into my army of cyBear warriors and spam my country’s leader’s email boxes, they will never see it coming.
But… where will you get the technological bits that are bear-compatible?
From CyBearDyne Systems of course!
Ya know, its people like that who give America a bad name. I was a little disappointed to hear Obamacare went through but heck, I’m still here! In my eyes the world would be much better without idiots like that, heck, its just like that whole ordeal when Oreos decided to openly support gay rights, WHAT THE FLYING FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE IDIOTIC PEOPLE! Oh… not Oreos, more power to ’em im glad they decided to help that cause, freedom of speech and all that good stuff, its just all of these American idiots making the more sensible of us look like complete morons to the rest of the world.
I don’t understand the reasoning behind people not wanting a general healthcare to help those in need and make lives safer for those who have to choose between their son’s Cancer treatment or 2 new mortgages on the house because they don’t have healthcare…
i just hope they all don’t move to Canada cause i do plan to move back there and Edmonton is a bit Wonky as it was. :/
Obamacare in no way provides universal healthcare in any way, shape, or form, as Canadians (and way too many ignorant Americans) apparently think it does. What it does is require everyone not covered by their employer to purchase their own healthcare from a private company or be fined. In other words, lower income families that cant afford healthcare are likely to rack up fines that they cant afford to pay. The only Americans getting free healthcare from the government will still just be us military/government employees, just like before. THAT is why so many people are pissed about it. Americans who DO think that Obamacare is free universal healthcare (and who think it would be bad if it was) really are stupid, and I apologize that you guys are going to be getting so many them.
Canada, USA, Mexico… As long as they stay on that said of the Atlantic I’m content.
i gotta ask whats the deal with args eyes why do they glow why is it that he has no pupils WHY WHY WHY?
Good thing there’s an ocean between America and Scotland I should be safe… For now.
Psht. I’m moving to Scotland….at least in my dreams. Seriously, though. I want to live there. Not for any political reason…it’s just -gorgeous-.
I usually never feel the need to comment on the comics here, but I don’t like your opinion of these people. You are only assuming that these people are stupid. If you find a country that is less then desirable, and you don’t agree with their form of government or policies then why not leave? I don’t find that stupid at all. I wish I could leave the country.
I understand that people with universal health care pay for it out of their taxes, but the point is, everyone pays for health care, everyone gets health care. Why is it so hard for people to want to help one another, we all pay taxes for health care, we all get it.
Because America is full of selfish, greedy, bastards.
No, instead when I was unemployed for 6 months, I was denied almost all forms of health care except for a horribly expensive one that wanted $400.00 a month, VS the $800.00 a month I got in unemployment.
So fuck you Arg, this time I don’t agree.
Isn’t the argument here, that the people migrate out of the US because of the healthcare system, but are migrating into a country which has the system which they all hate?
Yeah, the whole point was that they hate how the healthcare is being more socialized… so they run to a country with completely socialized healthcare to escape.
He never said that protesting, moving or trying to change government policies was not a good idea, just that it’s stupid to get angry about a change and then threaten to move somewhere that has exactly the thing you seem to hate so much in a much more concentrated way.
I think you’re reading things into this that aren’t there- we think socialized healthcare is awesome and frequently high-five for having it because we’ve been unemployed, too. America should have healthcare access for all- but that ain’t the point of this comic.
Allow me to describe an analogy for you, as a Canadian.
I really, really, really hate Harper. I have a lot of reasons, but the relevant one for this analogy is his recent “I’m going to monitor THE INTERNET” bill. So (and this is where it all becomes theoretical), in order to escape his infringement on personal freedom and hatred for progress and etc., I move to Tibet.
YEAH. That’s what’s happening here.
Dude, I live in the States. I just want to move to Canada because some of my favorite web-comic artists are there and it seems like a good place to live.
Now, I haven’t actually looked into it, but that is because I don’t actually plan on moving there. Not yet anyway.
Other options: Italy, Finland, or Japan.
P.S.- I love this comic.
First time poster. Felt I should say this.
We can use this to our advantage Arg!
Step 1 Close all routes into canada except for swimming cross the river.
Step 2 Fill the water with Piranha ( Don’t worry bout environmental issues they will either die by frostbite, Choking on too much human, or Niagara Falls
Step 3 Set out a lawn chair, grab a beer, and watch the idiots try to swim across.
For added fun make only passable route just above Niagara Falls and have a contest on who does the best dive off the falls
WE ALL WIN
When I moved from Maine to Washington DC, I experienced some pretty serious culture shock. There are stupid and petty people in every town, city, state, province, country, and unorganized territory in the world – but we really know how to grow ’em here in the states.
I kinda blame our astounding desire to hold onto religion and let it rule our lives when practically every other major country lets science and reason guild them. I mean come on, we already had the dark ages to show us how messed up a country ruled by religion is, and if that doesn’t help you realize religion holds no place in the policies and government we could always turn to the middle east for a much more current example.
ACTUALLY
If you only visit (or illegally immigrate) to Canada, you won’t be covered by our healthcare, since you don’t pay in. If you sneak across, it’d be just like you had insurance and were ditched by the company the minute you got sick! Maybe WE should be building border fences!
Even if you legally immigrate, it takes a few years to kick in. I think it’s 5, in order to apply to be a Canadian citizen?
Yeah, I’ve heard people say “I hate socialized medicine, I’m moving to Canada/England to get away from these crazy liberals!!” and it makes my brain hurt because they’re ignorant, in some form or another, of the way most of the world works…
I mean, most of the modern world has universal healthcare… except China and the US. Oz has it, Japan, Brazil, almost all of Europe, Russia… sure, some systems have issues, but that isn’t to say that it’s a bad thing.
I’m left to think that Republican Americans think everyone is Just Like Them, despite being a minority… but that could be an issue with school systems, etc.
I consider myself a denizen of the Internet, more than any country.
I’ll admit I’ve considered moving to Canada, but only to escape every idiot American who threatened to move Canada over ObamaCare.
Also Rush Limbaugh decided to be original and said he’d move to Costa Rica….. they have socialized healthcare too
D: now I feel bad for choosing to move to Halifax within the next few years, although my reasoning has nothing to do with obamacare or free healthcare ._.
I live in America now so all my American buddies are freaking out over this shit. My dad for one is very happy about it though. Why would you complain about AFFORDABLE healthcare?? I think I may need to find some more free thinking friends. Anyway, good luck dealing with the idiots, Andrew!
Y’know, you really do have to feel bad for these people. Almost every country in the world has some form of government healthcare, with China and Mexico being the exception, and they can’t move to those places for obvious reasons (y’know because they hate communist and Mexicans). So really, they’re alone in a world that is, for a good portion, liberal. It must really suck for them, of course they probably don’t realize it. Great comic.
Oh, and the whole option of repealing the AHA is next to nearly impossible now. So they’ve got absolutely nothing to fall back on for the foreseeable future.
Sorry about the influx of stupids. Try to avoid the infected. I find derpies can be rather contagious.
If only they’d built that border wall, the stupid would be trapped inside now. 🙁
The biggest fear people I’ve talked to about Obamacare have is now the government is going to be telling people what they need or don’t to stay healthy, and they distrust the government so much that they’re flat out terrified.
Note: Valid or not, that’s how they feel.
Just put a river and a bridge between here and USA. I think it’s a +75% obesity rate?
I read them all in one night… Congratz btw :3
Crap, can we just get a wave of zombies or have the internet go down for a week? Anything is better than that. O.o
Great, I’ve wanted to go to canada for the longest time but now everyone’s just gonna think I followed the wave of stupid. I just wanted to make cartoons! D:
ALASKA DOESN’T WANT THEM EITHER. I came here to get AWAY from the idiots in the lower states. .___.
I don’t care about it. They can’t throw me in jail for not having healthcare.
Actually… that is in the bill. The official stance from the Whitehouse was that they don’t plan on doing it but they want to be able to threaten you with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuZ_1CuTUdI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrYRai1pGXM
Even if you don’t want to believe that they’ll go through with that, they can fine you for not having health insurance and arrest you for not paying the fine. After all, the difference between refusing to pay a fine and not being able to pay a fine is whether the courts that levied the fine choose to believe you.
Oh, uh, ARG, quick headsup. A lot of the Democrats to your south have pointed out that this is the first step towards socialized healthcare. If you think it’s bad now, just wait for the people who threaten to move to Canada over that.
I would like to apologize on behalf of my nation… I theorize that a twitter troll probably started this movement to prove a point about the mob mentality of uninformed American Republicans; one can imagine a gleeful adherent of LulzSec praying that it would work… but perhaps the fact that it did only strengthens the author’s assertion that there is no shepherd for the ignorant.
Loved this one, thanks! And yeah, it’s hilarious that 90%+ of the places angry people claim they want to move to are at least as socialistic as Canada in regards to health care.
